Peacock to Add 79 New Movies Today: The 3 to Watch
By Phillip Swann
The TV Answer Man – Buy Me a Coffee!
Peacock today (February 1, 2026) will add 79 new movies to its streaming lineup. Here are the three to watch, in my humble opinion:
Man on Fire (2004)
What Kind of Movie: Action/Drama
Who’s In It: Denzel Washington, Dakota Fanning, Christopher Walken
Denzel Washington plays John Creasy, a former CIA intelligence agent turned alcoholic who’s hired to protect Pita, the young daughter (Dakota Fanning) of wealthy parents in Mexico City. The seemingly easy gig turns upside down when the daughter is kidnapped in a shootout that leaves Creasy fighting for his life. The subsequent events as Creasy seeks revenge, and the return of the young girl, makes Man on Fire one of the best action pictures of this century. Denzel is magnetism personified as the ruthless former government assassin who employs all his skills to set things right. Christopher Walken is also exceptional as Creasy’s former CIA colleague, as is Fanning as Pita, matching Denzel step for step in several pivotal scenes. The Denzel-Dakota chemistry was renewed in 2023 when the now 30-year-old Fanning had a supporting role in Denzel’s The Equalizer 3. (This time, she played a CIA officer!) American Fiction (2023)
What Kind Of Movie: Satire
Who’s In It: Jeffrey Wright, Sterling K. Brown
Jeffrey Wright stars in this smart and sweet satire of racial stereotypes in our culture and literary world. Nominated for an Academy Award for Best Picture, American Fiction features Wright as a serious (and somewhat pretentious) author who discovers the ticket to fame and fortune as an African-American writer is feigning he’s a criminal who lives and breathes the hood. The publishing world, filled with white do-gooders, anoint the fake novelist as a literary genius much to Wright’s chagrin. American Fiction is a rare film that challenges perceptions of race and perceptions themselves which makes it worth a watch. There’s also a standout performance by Sterling K. Brown as the newly-out-of-the-closet brother to Jeffrey Wright’s protagonist.
Anchorman: The Legend Of Ron Burgundy (2004)
What Kind of Movie: Comedy
Who’s In It: Will Ferrell, Steve Carell, Paul Rudd
Will Ferrell is at his peak zaniness as a narcissistic San Diego news anchor named Ron Burgundy whose perfect life is disrupted when the station hires a female co-anchor, played superbly by Christina Applegate. The film serves as both satire of local news in the 1970s and a showcase for Ferrell’s slapstick genius and the supporting cast is just brilliant including Fred Willard, Steve Carell, Paul Rudd, and David Koechner. And don’t miss the amazing news anchor duel with cameos from Ben Stiller, Tim Robbins and Vince Vaughn. Funny film!
