Netflix this weekend (October 16-19, 2025) plans to add 18 new TV shows and movies to its streaming lineup. Here are the three to watch, in my humble opinion:

The Diplomat: Season Three
Release Date: Thursday, October 16

Keri Russell, who shined so brightly as a Russian agent in FX’s The Americans, returns to the political/espionage stage in season three of the Netflix original series, The Diplomat. Russell started out the series as a U.S. ambassador to England who must manage a series of international conflicts while watching her marriage crumble. In season three, Russell’s Kate Wyler must cope with the death of a president and her husband’s political ascent. Seasons one and two also now available on Netflix.

Starting 5: Season Two
Release Date: Thursday, October 16

The Netflix original sports documentary follows NBA stars Kevin Durant, Jaylen Brown, James Harden, Tyrese Haliburton and Shia Gilgeous-Alexander on and off the court during the 2024-25 season. Must viewing for hoops fans. Season one also available on Netflix.

Don’t Say a Word (2001)
Release Date: Saturday, October 18

Michael Douglas stars as a high-profile psychiatrist who must examine a disturbed sanatorium patient (Brittany Murphy) who holds the secret to solving a murder and jewel theft. The film is a solid thriller, but worth noting particularly for the performance of the late Brittany Murphy who is both powerful and touching here. The actress died at 32 in 2009 due to a combination of prescription drugs and pneumonia but Don’t Say a Word serves as a great showcase for her exceptional talents, extinguised far too soon.
