Millions of Viewers Could Lose Their Favorite Sports Channels In Contract Disputes This Week

This potentially could be a sad week for millions of TV viewers – particularly sports fans – with four major carriage agreements set to expire.

– On Tuesday, YouTube TV subscribers could lose all NBC programming in a carriage fight between the companies. The prognosis for a settlement is not good with both sides seemingly digging in for a protracted fight.

– Also on Tuesday, YouTube TV and Hulu both could lose the Monumental Sports Network, the regional TV home of the Washington Wizards and Capitals, in two separate contract disputes. The likelihood of a settlement before either contract expires may be even worse due to YouTube TV’s history of jettisoning RSNs (regional sports networks) and Hulu’s lukewarm support of sports nets.

Update: YouTube TV Loses Monumental Sports.

And, finally, Comcast on Tuesday could lose the Yes Network in yet another carriage row. The channel is the regional TV home of the New York Yankees and Brooklyn Nets. The good news here is that the Yankees’ regular season is over. However, the Nets’ 2025-26 season begins in late October. The forecast for a settlement is better here than in the aforementioned disputes. The two companies reached a short-term extension last spring.

The TV Answer Man will monitor these situations this week and report back here if anything significant changes.
