YouTube TV Says It’s Lost Monumental Sports Network In Carriage Fight

YouTube TV has notified subscribers that Monumental Sports Network will no longer be available in their lineup in the Washington, D.C, market because the companies were unable to reach a new carriage agreement by today’s deadline. Monumental Sports is the regional TV home of the Washington Capitals and Washington Wizards.

“Over the past few weeks, we’ve been focused on reaching a fair agreement with Monumental Sports…to keep their content on YouTube TV,” the subscriber e-mail states. “Unfortunately, despite our best efforts, we haven’t been able to reach a deal and starting today, September 30, 2025, programming from Monumental Sports will not be available on YouTube TV. This means you will no longer be able to watch live content or access recorded programs from this channel in your library.”

Monumental Sports, which alerted viewers last week of today’s deadline for a new deal, has yet to issue a response to YouTube TV’s statement.

The blackout means that YouTube TV sports fans in the Washington, D.C. area will not be able to watch the Capitals’ regional broadcasts when the NHL regular season starts October 7 or the Wizards when the NBA tips off on October 21.

Monumental has said YouTube TV is refusing to pay fair market rates for the channel while the streamer says the exact opposite, of course.

With the loss of Monumental Sports Network, YouTube TV will carry only four regional sports networks. However, the four RSNs are all NBC owned and YouTube TV could lose all NBC channels at midnight tonight due to a separate carriage fight.

Since YouTube TV is the exclusive carrier of the NFL Sunday Ticket, the company believes that’s sufficient to attract and keep subscribers who are sports fans. And if someone really wants a RSN, in most cases, he can subscribe directly to the channel’s standalone streaming service. In Monumental Sports’ case, the standalone app is just $20 a month.

Hulu Live’s contract to carry Monumental Sports also expires today, but there has been no word from either company on whether a new deal has been reached as of 6 p.m. ET.
