I read your article on senior discounts on the streaming services like Netflix. Do you know if AARP has any discounts on streaming services? I have a membership and it has a lot of good benefits with it. – Charles, District Heights, Maryland.

Charles, I reported earlier this week that the major streaming services DO NOT have discounts for seniors which is a terrible oversight. They offer reduced prices for other groups such as students but not older Americans who often must live on tight budgets.

However, I do have some good news if you’re looking for a cheaper way to subscribe to a top streaming service. An AARP membership, which costs $15 a year for the first year, enables you to get $40 off an annual Walmart Plus plan which includes either Paramount Plus or Peacock for free. That reduces the annual price of Walmart Plus to $58 (normal price: $98.)

WHY THIS IS A GOOD DEAL

The annual Walmart Plus plan includes free shipping of Walmart purchases (among other benefits) and a one year subscription to either Paramount Essential (with ads) or Peacock Premium (with ads.) (You get to choose which streamer to get; you can change every 90 days.)

The Paramount Essential plan normally costs $8.99 a month or $89.99 a year. So the Walmart Plus 50 percent off one year sale would save you some money on Paramount Plus. However, the Peacock Premium plan is $10.99 a month or $109.99 a year. So you could save roughly $60 by getting Walmart Plus now instead of subscribing directly to Peacock Premium for a year.

If you already have an AARP membership – and you are in the market for either Peacock or Paramount Plus – this is a great deal. (Peacock has a large lineup of live sports from NBC and Paramount Plus is the home to many critically-acclaimed shows for older Americans such as Landman starring Billy Bob Thornton.)
