Do Any Streaming Services Offer Senior Discounts?

Sir, do you know if Netflix or any other of the streaming companies offer a discount for a senior citizen? They are so expensive when you order them. – Heidi, Washington, D.C.

Heidi, the bad news is that the major streaming services – Netflix, Hulu, HBO Max, Amazon’s Prime Video and so on – do not offer discounts for seniors. This is a real shame and I urge the streamers to rectify this ASAP. They offer discounts for military and students, which is nice, but not seniors, many of whom are desperately trying to make ends meet in their glory years.

The only major TV service that offers a special benefit for seniors is Dish Network, the satellite TV operator. While Dish doesn’t provide price discounts, it does provide a free movie rental every month; free standard installation; and a Dish Voice Remote with your Dish set-top. Those free features are available to anyone 55 and over who orders a TV package from Dish.

DIRECTV, Charter’s Spectrum TV and Cox Cable do not offer senior discounts or any special benefit program. Come on, guys.

If you’re looking for a price benefit, my best advice is to subscribe to the streamers’ ads-included plans which are the least expensive offerings. For example, HBO Max’s ads-included plan costs $10.99 a month compared to the cheapest ads-free plan which is $18.49 a month. Netflix’s ads-free package is $8.99 a month compared to the cheapest ads-free plan which is $19.99 a month. That’s a big difference.

My other suggestion is to wait for the streamers to offer discounts during special events such as Amazon’s Prime Day or Black Friday. By example, during the 2025 Black Friday sale, I was able to get HBO Max‘s ads-included plan for just $2.99 a month.

Heidi, I hope that helps. Happy viewing and stay safe!

I don’t think they offer discounts for Military Vets either.
