The 5 Best Female MLB Sidelines Reporters – Who’s Number One?
Anyone who knows me knows that I am a serious baseball fan. I watch the Washington Nationals religiously; subscribe to the MLB TV out-of-market plan and even watch minor league games from time to time on the MLB app. (Also available on the Bally Sports Live app.)
So I appreciate the importance and benefits of the MLB sidelines reporter, particularly female sidelines reporters who must deliver the latest news and insights while navigating a group of (sometimes) bawdy and rowdy young men in their pajamas (baseball uniforms). The female reporters know what I’m saying.
With that in mind, here are my picks for the five best female MLB sidelines reporters going today:
1. Lauren Shehadi, MLB Network, Netflix, Turner Sports
Lauren has been a star on MLB Network for years but she also pitches in as a sidelines reporter on game broadcasts on TBS and Netflix. She’s always prepared, knowledgeable and quick to probe when necessary, (She gets extra credit for growing up in the Washington, D.C. area and being an Orioles fan.)
2. Tricia Whitaker, Apple TV’s Friday Night Baseball
Tricia nearly made it to the top spot just for her lighthearted interviews with Milwaukee Brewers Manager Pat Murphy. (The Milwaukee skipper once handed her a pancake from his pants pocket and Tricia didn’t even blink; total grace under pressure.) Her warm and savvy interviews in between innings makes Apple TV’s game coverage more appealing than it sometimes deserves to be.
3. Kirsten Watson, SportsNet LA (Los Angeles Dodgers)
If you don’t live in the LA area, you may not know Kirsten Watson. But she’s a star in the making. Of course, Dodgers fans already know this, but Kirsten Watson is one of the best in the business at the regional sports channel level. She’s a constant on SportsNet LA, delivering dugout updates, player interviews, and crucial injury or lineup scoops with professionalism and charm. (You can also tell that the players are totally in love with her.
4. Erica Weston, FanDuel Sports Network (Los Angeles Angels)
And speaking of turning heads, Erica Weston has been a dazzling presence on Los Angeles Angels broadcasts for both her insightful interviews and SoCal blonde beauty. The dugout is not the only place for Angels in Anaheim.
5. Kelsey Wingert, Colorado Rockies
Kelsey Wingert gets the fifth spot for her work with the Colorado Rockies where she’s become a familiar and capable sideline presence. She handles the altitude, the thin air, and the sometimes challenging on-field conditions with professionalism while keeping things light and informative for viewers.
