ESPN to Air the Alabama-Georgia Game In 4K This Saturday Night

TV Answer Man, what’s the ESPN 4K game of the week for this week? And will it be on the app? – Gene, Pittsburgh.

Gene, ESPN’s 4K college football game of the week will be the big SEC matchup between 17th ranked Alabama and 5th ranked Georgia this Saturday (September 27) at 7:30 p.m. ET.

While ESPN is producing the event, it will actually air on ABC, which will simulcast the game in HD on ABC network affiliates. The game will be available in upscaled 4K on select TV providers.

Which TV Providers Will Offer the Game In 4K?
YouTube TV, Dish, Sling TV, DIRECTV, Comcast, Optimum and Verizon are expected to offer the game on their ESPN 4K channels. ESPN does not offer 4K programming on its new Unlimited app.

Who Is Expected to Win?
Georgia, 3-0, is a 2.5-point favorite over the 2-1 Crimson Tide of Alabama. ESPN’s Matchup Predictor gives Georgia a 54.8 percent chance of winning.

Who Are the Top Players In the Game?
Visiting Alabama is led by junior QB Ty Simpson who’s completing 71.9 percent of his passes while Georgia is led by junior QB Gunner Stockton who’s completing 74.2 percent of his throws.

What Is Upscaled 4K?
The ESPN 4K broadcast will be ‘upscaled’ from 1080p HD.  The upscaled 4K means that the game will be produced in 1080p HD on site and upgraded to 4K for the home transmission. ESPN switched to upscaled 4K a few years ago after previously doing some games in native 4K.
