DIRECTV Adds 650 Network Affiliates to MySports Genre Plan

With the first Sunday of NFL games two days away, DIRECTV says it has now added roughy 650 local network affiliates to its $69.99 a month MySports genre plan.

The plan, which offers more than 20 national sports and news networks, is designed to attract cost-conscious sports fans who are tired of paying around $100 a month for a larger bundle of channels just to get their favorite sports networks.

At launch, MySports was missing local network affiliates in many markets which made the plan a questionable buy since the networks air high-profile sporting events such as the World Series, the Super Bowl, NFL regular season and playoff games, March Madness and The Masters.

But DIRECTV has quickly closed the gap by signing carriage agreements with the national networks and most independent network affiliate groups such as Nexstar, Gray, TEGNA, Scripps and Hearst, among others.

The TV provider says MySports now has 160 active ABC affiliates, 156 CBS stations, 163 NBC stations and 178 Fox station commitments. ABC local stations are available to approximately 90 percent of potential U.S. homes; CBS in 85 percent; NBC in 99 percent; and Fox in 96 percent.

“As a result, most current or would-be MySports subscribers can rest assured of having local stations from within their community that often provide the most popular NFL or college football teams in those regions,” DIRECTV said in a press release.

The MySports plan is now available for $59.99 a month for the first month with the MySports Extra plan, which includes the NFL RedZone channel, free for the first month. MySports also includes free access to the new ESPN Unlimited app.
