HBO Max this week (January 26-February 1, 2025) is adding 68 new TV shows and movies to its streaming lineup. Here are the three to watch, in my humble opinion:

If I Had Legs I’d Kick You (2025)
When to Watch: Friday, January 30
What Kind of Movie: Drama
Who’s In It: Rose Byrne, Conan O’Brien

Rose Byrne stars in her Oscar-nominated role as a psychotherapist who needs more help than her patients due to stress over her daughter’s feeding disorder. Unable to handle the pressure, she turns to drugs, alcohol and anything else that might provide short-term relief. The film serves a great lesson about human fragility and its power to possess at a moment’s notice.

Rose Byrne in If I Had Legs I’d Kick You.

I’m Chevy Chase And You’re Not
When to Watch: Saturday, January 31
What Kind of Show: Documentary
Who’s In It: Chevy Chase

The CNN documentary chronicles the controversial career of Chevy Chase who has become an industry outcast due to boorish behavior. CC’s catalog of comedy (Saturday Night Live, Caddyshack, National Lampoon’s Vacation, Fletch, etc.) is among the best of the last several decades but he’s definitely not having the last laugh at the age of 82. The show includes extensive interviews with the comedian who only solidifies his reputation with frequent, bitter jabs at the interviewer. (I watched the doc when it first aired on CNN, and as a longtime Chevy fan, was sadden that he can’t accept he’s his own worst enemy.)

Malcolm X (1992)
When to Watch: Sunday, February 1
What Kind of Film: Biofilm
Who’s In It: Denzel Washington’s Spike Lee

Spike Lee’s evocative 1992 drama starring Denzel Washington as the 1960s civil rights leader is the director at the peak of his powers (Denzel, too.). The film chronicles the amazing life of Malcolm X from his days as a Detroit drug dealer to his transformation as a religious leader and civil rights icon. Beautiful film in more ways than one.
