TV Answer Man, will the new Fox One app be available for free to cable and satellite subscribers who get Fox through their programming plans like the new ESPN app? – Gene, Pittsburgh.

Gene, you’re right. The new ESPN unlimited app, which will include live feeds of all ESPN networks for $29.99 a month, will be available for free to pay TV subscribers who have the sports network in their programming bundles. However, when the app launches on August 21, it will only be available for free to some pay TV subscribers. See our article for more details.

But what about the Fox One app which will also launch on August 21? The new Fox app, which will cost $19.99 a month, will also include all live Fox channel feeds (including local affiliates). But will it also be available for free to cable, satellite and live streaming subscribers?

Answer: Yes.

“While Fox one will be marketed to the cordless market, current pay TV subscribers will also have access to FOX one on an authenticated (user name and password from the pay TV service) basis. And yes, we will be offering bundling opportunities that make sense to achieve our targeted objectives,” Lachlan Murdoch, Fox CEO, said last week in an investors call.

Murdoch emphasized that his company is still a strong backer of the traditional pay TV service although it’s launching an app designed to appeal to cord cutters.

“The traditional cable bundle remains our favorite distribution channel as we believe it continues to provide exceptional value to consumers,” he said.

Murdoch said the new Fox One app will not have original programming, unlike the new ESPN unlimited service which will in addition to the live feeds of ESPN networks.

“…None of the investment in Fox One is original programming or exclusive programming to that platform,” he said in the investors call. “Fox One will encompass all of our existing Fox content with the addition as well of as as of of their Fox Nation content on a on a a tier. But none of that will will will include any incremental and, you know, sort of a sticky sort of additional spend.”

Gene, I hope that answers your question. Happy viewing and stay safe!
