Hulu this month (March 2025) plans to add 97 new movies to its streaming lineup. Here’s the nine you don’t want to miss, in my humble opinion:
Anora (2024)
For film buffs, this might be the only reason you need to subscribe to Hulu now. The streamer on March 17 will add Anora, the 2025 Oscar winner for Best Picture. The comedy/drama stars Mikey Madison (who took home the Oscar for Best Actress) as a Brooklyn stripper who impulsively marries the son of a Russian oligarch whose family then comes to America to end the marriage. Anora’s Sean Baker also captured the Best Director Oscar. I haven’t seen Anora yet but I’m looking forward to it. Debuts March 17.
Babylon (2022)
Margot Robbie and Brad Pitt star in this sensational epic drama on the silent film industry in the 1920s and the difficulties that some actors faced making the transition to sound. Directed with great panache by Damien Chazelle (Whiplash, La La Land), Babylon’s greater thesis is that Hollywood, in any era, can be a cruel mistress, quick to seduce but impossible to love. Through the eyes of Robbie and Pitt, the film explores how industry execs and their minions manufacture and manipulate their stars only to cut them loose when their appeal begins to wane. For Chazelle, still a relatively young director at 40 (then 37), it was a bold statement and perhaps one that has set back his career; he hasn’t made a film since. And that is a terrible shame. Babylon is a dazzling 189 minutes (feels like 89 minutes, it moves so fast) overflowing with memorable images and incredible acting, particularly from Robbie and Pitt who put vanity on the shelf for this one. It’s a beautiful film and one I cannot recommend more highly. Debuts March 8.

American Hustle (2013)
David O. Russell’s brilliant 2013 comedy-drama based on the real-life FBI Abscam sting operation in the 1970s. Christian Bale and Amy Adams star as two con artists who are forced by an FBI agent (Bradley Cooper) to help the agency set up corrupt politicians, including the mayor of Camden, New Jersey, played by Jeremy Renner. The film is a dazzling display of human folly and Russell has never been better. The great cast also includes Jennifer Lawrence, Jack Huston and Robert DeNiro. Debuts March 1.
LA Confidential (1997)
The 1997 Curtis Hanson-directed neo-noir drama about corrupt cops in the City of Angels in the 1950s is the best of pulp fiction on screen. Rapier dialogue, over-the-top action, stylish cinematography and juicy performances from Russell Crowe, Guy Pierce, Kevin Spacey and Kim Basinger, among many, many others. It’s based on the James Ellroy novel. (Although Ellroy didn’t like the film; he’s wrong. It’s great.) Debuts March 1.
The Wrestler (2008)
The absorbing 2008 drama stars Mickey Rourke as a washed-up professional wrestler who tries to reconcile with his rebellious daughter, played by Evan Rachel Wood. Directed by Darren Aronofsky, The Wrestler is a brutally honest and realistic portrayal of an athlete who will do anything to regain his previous success, even at the expense of his physical and emotional well-being. Rourke has never been better, capturing an Academy Award nomination for Best Actor. Debuts March 1.
The Social Network (2010)
Director David Fincher’s brilliant take on narcissism, ambition and, ultimately, unrelenting arrogance through the lens of young Mark Zuckerberg as he builds Facebook while shedding friendships and his moral compass. Jesse Eisenberg is flawless as Zuck but don’t forget the fun supporting performances by Justin Timberlake as Napster’s Sean Parker and Armie Hammer as both of the Winkelvoss twins who claimed the Facebook founder ripped them off. Debuts March 1.
Alien (1979)
Director Ridley Scott’s sci-fi masterpiece redefined the science fiction genre. Sigourney Weaver’s portrayal of Ripley is a tour de force, showcasing both vulnerability and resilience in the face of unimaginable horror. The meticulous attention to detail in the production design, combined with a smart and suspenseful script, will keep you on the edge of your seat from beginning to end. And be prepared to look away at the lunch scene. You know the one. Debuts March 1.
Fight Club (1999)
The 1999 drama from director David Fincher stars Edward Norton as a meek worker-bee who breaks out of his shell (and breaks a few bones) when he joins an underground boxing community. Brad Pitt plays his alter ego/friend who teaches him the ropes while simultaneously (metaphysically speaking) tying him up with them. This is early Fincher at his weirdest (and most brilliant) and you’ll either love this film or hate it. If you love it, watch it again for all the clues you missed the first time. Debuts March 14.
Pulp Fiction (1994)
Director Quentin Tarantino’s non-linear masterpiece weaves interconnected stories of crime, wit, and dark humor as only he could. And what a cast! Samuel L. Jackson, Bruce Willis, John Travolta, Uma Thurman, Harvey Keitel, Tim Roth, Ving Rhames, Christopher Walken…it just goes on and on. Pulp Fiction, which has often been copied, even to some degree by Tarantino himself, should be in anyone’s list of the top 10 best movies ever. And if you disagree, allow me to retort! Debuts March 1.
