Max this month (December 2024) plans to add 108 new TV shows and movies to its streaming lineup. Here are the three most interesting, in my humble opinion:
Juror #2 (Max Original)
Nicholas Hoult stars as a juror in a murder trial who discovers during the proceedings that he may be the actual killer. Directed by 94-year-old Clint Eastwood, Juror #2 was not expected to resonate with today’s ADHD audiences with skeptics even including Warner Bros. Discovery executives who buried the film in just 50 theaters at first. But critics and moviegoers are raving about the movie, saying it’s a no-nonsense return to strong storytelling in the cinema. I haven’t seen Juror #2 yet, but I guarantee you that I will be watching when it debuts on Max on December 20.
Beetlejuice, Beetlejuice (2024)
And speaking of recent theatrical releases. Max will debut the Beetlejuice sequel, Beetlejuice, Beetlejuice, this Friday, December 6. The film picks up 36 years later with Lydia (Winona Ryder) as the host of a paranormal talk show who thinks she can see ghosts, including the notorious Betelgeuse, reprised with flawless panache by the great Michael Keaton. The supporting cast includes first film favorite Catherine O’Hara as well as some fun newcomers such as Jenna Ortega who plays Lydia’s skeptical daughter. Fun film for the entire family! Debuts December 6.
Bookie, Season 2 (Max Original)
Sebastian Maniscalco (The Irishman) plays a bookie on the dark side of LA where gambling will soon be legal and gamblers are more psychopathic than ever. Maniscalco is a gifted comedic and dramatic actor and season two promises some intriguing guest stars including Ray Romano and Charlie Sheen. Season two premiere debuts December 12.
