TV Answer Man, I read about the CBS anchor saying something weird about the Holocaust on Sunday. Do you know how I can find that video to watch for myself? – Cindy, Harrisburg, Pennsylvania.
Cindy, Margaret Brennan, the anchor of the Sunday morning news show, Face the Nation, yesterday interviewed Secretary of State Marco Rubio on a host of topics including a speech that Vice President J.D. Vance gave last week in Munich, Germany in which he scolded European leaders for what Vance claimed was their ongoing attack on free speech.
During the Rubio interview, Brennan seemed to suggest that Nazi Germany in World War II used the power of free speech to commit genocide against Jewish people. Here’s her comment:
“Well, he (Vance) was standing in a country (Germany) where free speech was weaponized to conduct a genocide, and he met with the head of a political party that has far-right views and some historic ties to extreme groups.”
Rubio quickly responded, saying that free speech had nothing to do with the Holocaust. Later in the day, Brennan’s remark drew both positive and negative responses which, of course, is normal in today’s political environment.
If you want to decide for yourself, below is the full Face the Nation show from YouTube, and a short news story from Sky News in Australia with the relevant comment highlighted:
Cindy, hope that helps. Happy viewing and stay safe!
Editor’s Note: As longtime readers know, The TV Answer Man does not take political sides here. I am just presenting the videos, as requested by Cindy, to allow you to decide for yourself.
