Max to Add 12 New Titles This Week – Here’s the 3 Most Interesting

Max, the streaming service formerly known as HBO Max, this week (August 5-11, 2024) plans to add 12 new TV shows and movies to its lineup. Here’s the three most interesting, in my humble opinion:

Hard Knocks: Training Camp with the Chicago Bears (HBO Original)
The HBO sports doc team will get exclusive access to the Bears’ training camp where first round draft pick QB Caleb Williams hopes to revitalize the once proud franchise. The Bears, who finished 7-10 last year, are not exactly the Monsters of the Midway these days; they’re more like the Pushovers of the Prairie. But Chicago did win seven of their last 13 games so hope springs eternal, right? Debuts Tuesday, August 6.

Industry, Season Three (HBO Original)
The dramatic series focuses on a group of young (and somewhat ruthless) college graduates who hope to climb their way to the top at a prestigious investment bank in London. Along the way, they stab each other in the back, kiss up to their bosses and have lots of sex. Industry has generated strong critical reviews, some of whom compare the show favorably to HBO’s Succession. However, I couldn’t get past the first episode of season one; the characters were one dimensional and the plotlines quite predictable. (I’ll admit that I am probably not the right demographic.) But you can judge for yourself. Seasons one and two are now on Max and the first episode of season three debuts Sunday, August 11. (Future episodes will air weekly on Sundays.)

Alien Encounters: Fact or Fiction, Season 1
Whether you believe their stories or not (that’s the fact or fiction part), you can’t deny that listening to a bunch of people recounting alleged tales of alien abduction has a certain appeal. The parlor game is not to wonder how it happened but to discern why they are telling the tales. Are they crazy? Seeking fame? Or justifiably terrified because something happened to them? Episode one features a farmer (it’s always a farmer or some rural fella’, isn’t it?) who says he saw a UFO after his father died, and a Mom who says she suffered radiation-like burns on her body after seeing a bright orb in the sky. Debuts Thursday, August 8.
