Peacock, the streaming home of the 2024 Paris Olympics, this week (August 4-10, 2024) plans to add five TV shows and movies to its lineup. Here’s the two most interesting, in my humble opinion:
The Bikeriders (2023)
Austin Butler (Elvis, Once Upon a Time In Hollywood) stars as a mercurial motorcycle gang member in the 1960s who gets caught up in the byzantine wars between rival gangs which leads to mayhem and murder. Jodie Comer plays his girlfriend who embraces the gang life despite the dangers while Tom Hardy is the uber-violent gang leader. Based on a real story, The Bikeriders, which will make its streaming debut on Peacock, was a critical success, generating an 81 score at Rotten Tomatoes.”Fueled by a charismatic cast and the gritty authenticity of writer-director Jeff Nichols’ approach, The Bikeriders offers a conventional yet impactful look at motorcycle culture,” the site states. Debuts Friday, August 9.
Renfield (2023)
If you love crazy Nic Cage, you’ll love Renfield. Cage plays an over-the-top Dracula in this horror comedy featuring Nicholas Hoult as the Eternal One’s not-so-humble assistant who’s charged with bringing him new souls to devour. Renfield is not for everyone’s taste, so to speak, but it’s a bloody funfest if you don’t take it too seriously. Debuts Friday, August 9.
