Fox Sports App Shutting Down May 2026: What to Do On Roku, Fire TV, Apple TV

By Phillip Swann

Fox has alerted customers in an e-mail that it will shutter the TV-connected Fox Sports app sometime in May which means users of Smart TVs, Roku, Apple TV and Fire TV devices will no longer be able to use it to watch Fox sports programming. (Mobile and computer users will still have access to the Fox Sports app when the TV app ends. However, it’s possible that will end in the coming weeks as well.)

The network is shifting its focus to the Fox One streaming service which costs $19.99 a month but is free to cable/satellite/live streaming subscribers who have Fox in their programming packages. (You input your pay TV user name and password in the Fox One app to access its programming.)

The move should not surprise anyone. Fox also eliminated the Fox Now app in July 2023 and last year’s introduction of the Fox One subscription app has made the Fox Sports app unnecessary.

TV Answer Man, is it true that the Fox Sports app is going away? How can we watch live sports on the go now? – Drake, Des Moines.

But here are the facts that connected TV users need to know to continue enjoying Fox’s online broadcasts of Major League Baseball, the NFL, NASCAR and this summer’s World Cup:

Key Facts On Fox Sports App Shuttering

– The Fox Sports app will cease on or around May 7, 2026 on all TV-connected streaming devices and Smart TVs;
– If you have Fox in your pay TV package, download the Fox One app so you can continue watching Fox programming via streaming. If you don’t have Fox on a pay TV service, the subscription is $19.99 a month. (There is a seven-day free trial.)
– The Fox One app has more features than the Fox Sports app; they include live feeds of all Fox channels; multiview viewing; and DVR recording in the cloud, among others.
– When the TV-connected Fox Sports app ends, you will still be able to watch it on a mobile phone or computer. However, the odds are good that Fox will cease that availability as well because it wants to push users to Fox One.
– If you’re unsure if your cable/satellite/live streaming service offers free access to Fox One, contact their customer support or try inputting your provider-supplied user name and password at the Fox One app.

Why Should You Care?
The Fox Sports app has been a helpful source for watching the network’s large lineup of live sports. In particular, 4K TV owners whose providers don’t offer 4K channels need to understand that they can watch Fox’s 4K broadcasts at the Fox One app with their pay TV user name and password.
