MLB TV today added free streaming access to DIRECTV subscribers of nine in-market team channels that were previously on regional sports networks (FanDuel Sports Network, MASN, Root Sports.)
That means a DIRECTV customer who has the local team’s channel in his cable/satellite/live streaming plan can now stream the team’s games on MLB TV for no additional cost.
This is a nice feature because it allows the pay TV customer to stream the games while away from home. In addition, MLB TV offers certain unique features such as local radio broadcasts that fans can listen to instead of the TV broadcast feed.
Which Teams Can Now Be Streamed For Free?
The nine teams that are now available to DIRECTV for free streaming at MLB TV: Reds, Tigers, Royals, Marlins, Brewers, Rays, Cardinals, Nationals and Mariners.
The channels are also available for $99 (and up) a season on MLB Media at ‘team.tv.’ For instance, the Cincinnati Reds’ new streaming channel is on Reds.TV.
MLB TV has already provided free streaming access to DIRECTV subscribers (and other TV providers) for eight MLB teams that were previously added to MLB’s Team.TV plans. They are the Padres, Diamondbacks, Rockies, Guardians, Twins, Mets, Yankees, and Dodgers.
It’s likely that MLB TV will extend free access to more providers for the ex-FanDuel teams (and Nationals and Mariners) in the coming weeks. Cox is already listed as a provider for the Nationals. You can see the list of teams and providers here.
