DIRECTV’s MySports: 25 Channels For $65 a Month – Is It Worth It?
The genre plan – a slimmed down (and less expensive) package of channels based on a single subject – has become a popular offering from pay TV services. YouTube TV has them and so does Fubo and Comcast’s Xfinity TV service. But DIRECTV was the first to introduce a genre package and its sports plan is arguably the most popular.
Yesterday, we put YouTube TV’s sports genre plan under the hood to determine if it’s worth your money. (You can read that article here.) So today, let’s look at DIRECTV’s MySports package.
How Much Does MySports Cost?
The plan, which is normally $64.99 a month, is now available for $44.99 a month for the first two months. (There’s also a five-day free trial.) It includes 26 channels and here’s the complete list:

What Are MySports’ Strengths?
The MySports lineup includes most of the usual suspects in a fan’s lineup such as the local networks, ESPN, FS1, TBS, TNT, NFL Network, Golf Channel, MLB Network, NHL Network and NBA TV. And, unlike YouTube TV, DIRECTV MySports now provides free access to the ESPN Unlimited app; YouTube TV says it will do so sometime this fall. (Also worth noting that YouTube TV does not have MLB Network or NHL Network.)
What Are MySports’ Weaknesses?
DIRECTV doesn’t offer regional sports networks (RSNs) in all markets although it does have them in more markets than YouTube TV which only has four NBC branded RSNs. (To add a RSN to DIRECTV MySports, you must pay an additional $19.99 a month. To find out if your RSN is available, click here.) MySports also doesn’t have the NFL RedZone Channel in the main plan but you can add it with the $12.99 a month MySports Extra pack which also has the Outdoor Channel, Willow and a handful of other niche sports nets.
Is DIRECTV‘s MySports Worth $64.99 a Month?
If you’re a DIRECTV fan, and a rabid sports fan, I would say yes. DIRECTV’s Choice plan, the least expensive bundle of 100+ channels that has regional sports networks and the national sports channels, costs $94.99 a month so that’s quite the jump in price. (But if you love non-sports channels, too, you might miss them.) And with the first two months priced at $44.99 each, that makes this an even more tempting offer.
