ABC, Fox, CBS, NBC and The CW tonight (January 5, 2026) will add 19 shows and episodes. Here are the three to watch, in my humble opinion. (All Times Eastern.)

St. Denis Medical (New episode)
Where to Watch: NBC
When to Watch: 8 p.m.

The medical mockumentary is back with new episodes! Tonight, Matt (Mekhi Leeper) causes a commotion when he dons new specs during his shift. The show, which is based at an underfunded Oregon hospital, is not bad thanks to a solid cast including Leeper, David Alan Grier, Allison Tolman (Fargo) and Kaliko Kauahi. This is season two; you can catch past episodes on Peacock.

DMV (four episodes)
Where to Watch: CBS
When to Watch: 8-10 p.m.

It’s hard to believe that a workplace comedy about a motor vehicles department hasn’t been made until now. But CBS’ new sitcom, DMW, which is based in Los Angeles (where driving is a dangerous sport), fits the bill nicely. Harriet Dyer stars as a soft-hearted driving examiner and the great Tim Meadows (Saturday Night Live, Mean Girls) is on board as a former English professor turned driving instructor. The first year show will not return with new episodes until February 23, 2026 but CBS is showcasing it tonight by airing four repeats in a row. Shows the network has faith that DMV will catch on. Give it a try tonight and make your own decision.

Brilliant Minds (New episode)
Where to Watch: NBC
When to Watch: 10 p.m.

NBC has a long legacy of outstanding medical dramas, including ER, and Brilliant Minds hopes to ride that wave to success. The show, which stars Zachary Quinto (pictured above) as as brilliant but mentally-challenged doctor, returns tonight with a new episode (number 11 in season two): The staff learns some distressing secrets at the holiday gala.
