Will DIRECTV Carry the NBC Sports Network?

TV Answer Man, could you tell us if DIRECTV will have the NBC Sports Network when it starts next week? Thank you for all you do for us!! – Tom, New Bern, North Carolina.

Tom, thank you for that. NBC announced this week that it will launch the new NBC Sports Network on Monday, November 17, 2025.

The 24/7 channel will offer a variety of live sports and related sports programming now found on its streaming service, Peacock.

If you don’t have Peacock, NBC Sports Network will be a great way to get the streamer’s live sportscasts although it will not carry all of Peacock’s sports lineup. However, it will have such top events as Monday Night NBA games and NBA Playoffs; MLB regular season and playoff games; and Premier League soccer matches

When the channel launches on Monday, it will first be an exclusive on YouTube TV. NBC says it will later be added to Comcast’s Xfinity TV service although it hasn’t provided a specific date.

But what about DIRECTV, you ask?

Well, I asked DIRECTV today and a company spokesman told me that he “can’t say just yet. Fair to indicate we’ve had discussions (with NBC).”

So, you might wonder, why would NBC Sports Channel launch first on YouTube TV? And why would Comcast get it second?

NBC recently negotiated a new carriage deal with YouTube TV for all of its NBC channels and it appears that the launch exclusive for NBC Sports Network was a sweetener for the deal. And as for Comcast, well, the cable operator owns NBC so it’s not hard to see why it will be second to get the new channel.

The TV Answer Man will continue to monitor this situation and report back here if we get news for more providers for NBC Sports Network, including DIRECTV.

Tom, I hope that helps. Happy viewing and stay safe!
