Netflix this month (January 2025) plans to remove 27 TV shows and movies from its streaming lineup. Here are the three you should watch before they leave, in my humble opinion:

Zero Dark Thirty (2012)
Director Kathryn Bigelow’s intense 2012 drama starring Jessica Chastain as a relentless CIA agent who hunts for the masterminds behind the 9/11 attack on America. The film was seen by some as glorifying the extralegal tactics required to obtain leads in the hunt for Osama Bin Laden. But it fairly characterizes the pain and zeal felt by the intelligence/military personnel at the time. And Chastain is riveting as a CIA case officer who can’t sit still (literally) until she finds her man. Leaving after January 31, 2025.

Selma (2015)
David Oyelowo stars as Martin Luther King, Jr. in this Ana DuVernay directed epic about the civil rights leader and his courageous effort in 1964 to assist blacks in registering to vote in the Jim Crow South. The film is a stirring look at King the man and the leader, but, as many Hollywood films often do, glosses over some facts to make its subject look even better. (For example, Lyndon Baines Johnson arguably was the most instrumental in getting the 1964 Civil Rights Act passed, but the film suggests LBJ was a reluctant participant.) Despite the flaws, it’s good for the soul. Leaving Netflix after January 15, 2025.

We’re the Millers (2013)
The comedy film stars Jason Sudeikis (Ted Lasso, SNL) as a drug dealer who creates a fake family to help transport a large shipment of marijuana to Mexico. Jennifer Aniston plays the ‘Mom.’ Not a classic, but still an amusing diversion thanks to the leads. You won’t regret streaming in. Leaving Netflix after January 31, 2025.
