TV Answer Man, do you know if Netflix will have WWE Raw in 4K? – Ray, South Glens Falls NY.
Ray, Netflix, which has agreed to pay $500 million per year over 10 years for the rights to WWE RAW, pro wrestling’s weekly Monday night event, will offer its first WWE Raw streamcast on Monday, January 6, at 8 p.m. ET.
The debut show is expected to provide some streaming surprises with past WWE faves such as The Undertaker and The Rock (Dwayne Johnson) possibly appearing. John Cena has been announced as a featured performer as he begins his farewell tour. Cody Rhodes, CM Punk and Roman Reigns as well as YouTuber Logan Paul (brother to Jake) have also been pegged to participate.
The program will be live so Netflix is hoping for an NFL Christmas technical performance rather than a Tyson-Paul debacle. With that in mind, perhaps, a Netflix spokeswoman tells The TV Answer Man that the WWE Raw streamcast will be in HD, not 4K.
This shouldn’t be a surprise after Netflix’s Tyson-Paul fightcast experienced widespread buffering and picture freezing. Netflix wants to ensure that WWE Raw is a smooth stream and the server strain of a live 4K production could make that more difficult.
By the way, Monday night’s episode of WWE Raw will be available to watch immediately after the live stream. You also will be able to download the show roughly 48 hours after it’s over.
Ray, hope that helps. Happy viewing and stay safe!
