Netflix this week (December 14-20, 2025) plans to add 17 new TV shows and movies to its streaming lineup. Here are the three to watch, in my humble opinion:

Emily In Paris – Season 5 (Netflix Original)
Release Date: Thursday, December 18

Lily Collins (pictured above) is back as Emily Cooper, the American ingenue who moves to Paris to teach a Parisian marketing firm a few things about American ingenuity. Or so she thinks. Along the way, she encounters irresistible Parisian men, confounding language barriers and other obstacles that only Emily could find. The Netflix original comedy is a feel-good delight with Collins a revelation in the title role; her performance is a throwback to those classic comedic single-woman turns from the 1960s/70s (Mary Tyler Moore in The Mary Tyler Moore Show; Marlo Thomas in That Girl, etc.). In season five (all 10 episodes will debut on Thursday), Emily’s back in Italy adjusting to life in a new city and with a new beau. But is a return to Paris and an old flame far behind?

Jake vs. Joshua: Judgment Day
Release Date: Friday, December 19, undercard starts at 8 p.m. ET

Netflix will exclusively stream an eight-round live boxing match between YouTube influencer turned pugilist Jake Paul and former two-time heavyweight champion Anthony Joshua on December 19. The Joshua fight will easily be Paul’s toughest since he started boxing in 2020. Joshua, a former Olympic boxer, is 28-4 with 25 knockouts. His last fight was September 21, 2024 when he was knocked out in the fifth round by Daniel Dubois. Joshua is listed at 6’6” and 245 pounds. Paul, who is listed at 6’1” and 185 pounds (although he has been as much as 40 pounds heavier in some fights), is 12-1 with seven knockouts. His sole loss was to Tommy Fury in a split decision.

Breakdown: 1975
Release Date: Friday, December 19

Taxi Driver. Jaws. One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest. Network. Nashville. Dog Day Afternoon. Shampoo. The list of iconic and brilliant movies released in the year 1975 just goes on and on. In this documentary, narrated by Jodie Foster (who was in Taxi Driver), we learn how the cultural upheaval of the time drove filmmakers to break boundaries and make many of the greatest films ever.
