Netflix has moved Alex Honnold’s daredevil climb of a 101-story building in Taipei, Taiwan to tonight (January 24) at 8 p.m. ET.
The event, which was scheduled to be live streamed by Netflix on Friday night, had to be postponed due to weather conditions, the streamer said. Netflix will now live stream the climb tonight at 8 p.m. ET.
Honnold, a professional rock climber plans to scale the 101-story office building with no ropes or safety nets. None. This is the biggest display of risk by Netflix since it decided to invest $200 million on that Marco Polo series. However, while the pitiful Polo only killed off a slew of fictional characters, this show could actually wind up with a real person dead.
Consequently, I have no doubt that millions of Netflix viewers will stream in with a strong sense of morbid curiosity. (And I will be one of them. And I betcha you will be, too.)
Netflix will cover the event like a major sporting event with high-profile announcers/personalities such as Elle Duncan, Mark Rober and WWE’s Seth Rollins providing commentary.
“I’m sure viewers will probably be on edge watching this,” Honnold tells Netflix’s Tudum. “I assume that most people will be sort of uncomfortable watching the whole thing. But I hope that viewers get a little bit of my joy from the experience — that they can appreciate the fun of it and the beauty of it, the scenery, just the whole experience. It’s not just extreme sports – it’s more.”
