This will be a busy weekend for live sports on streaming with the second week of the NFL season, another busy college football schedule, and Major League Baseball just two weeks away from the end of the regular season. But here are the top three live sporting events coming to streaming services this weekend, in my humble opinion:
Amazon’s Thursday Night Football: Washington at Green Bay
Thursday, September 12, 8 p.m. ET (pre-game coverage at 7 p.m. ET)
Amazon is back with its exclusive Thursday Night Football streams as the Washington Commanders (1-0) visit Lambeau Field to play the Green Bay Packers (1-0). The Packers, which are led by QB Jordan Love, are a 3.5-point favorite in this battle of likely playoff teams. Washington is led by second-year sensation, QB Jayden Daniels.
Netflix Boxing: Canelo Álvarez vs. Terence Crawford
Friday, September 13, 8 p.m. ET
Netflix has been dabbling with live sports for a few years now but this is the biggest event it has streamed ever. On Friday, September 13, the streaming giant will host (exclusively) the Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez-Terence ‘Bud’ Crawford fight for free with all plans. (No pay-per-view, folks.) The undercard is expected to begin at 8 p.m. ET with the main bout around 11 p.m, ET. Alvarez, 62-2-2 with 39 KOs, is the Super Middleweight Champion while Crawford, 41-0 with 31 KOs, is the WBA’s Junior Middleweight Champion. Crawford will jump up in weight to 168 pounds to compete for the Super Middleweight crown. The two are considered the sport’s best fighters pound-for-pound and this should be a battle for the ages.
Fox One’s Philadelphia at Kansas City NFL Game
Sunday, September 14, 4:25 p.m. ET
The streaming service will carry the iconic rematch of the 2025 Super Bowl teams. While it will be available in 720p HD on Fox network affiliates, Fox One is expected to stream the game in 1080p HD which will deliver a more vivid and detailed picture. (The upgrade is worth it, trust me.) Kansas City is 0-1 thanks to its upset loss last Friday night in Brazil to the Los Angeles Chargers. The defending Super Bowl champion Eagles, which are 1.5-point favorites, are 1-0 after defeating the Dallas Cowboys in week one, 24-20.
Update: Fox One produced the game in 720p HD which is the same so-so picture broadcast by Fox affiliates.
