Comcast today is moving the Cartoon Network from the Ultimate plan to the More Sports & Entertainment plan, which means Xfinity TV subscribers now will have to pay an extra $9.95 a month to continue watching the channel.

“On August 12, Cartoon Network is moving to our More Sports & Entertainment add-on package and will no longer be included in your current lineup,” a recent Comcast e-mail to customers states. “We regularly review our channel lineups and adjust them as needed to make sure we deliver the best mix of content and value for our customers.”

The $9.95 a month More Sports & Entertainment plan, which requires you to maintain a subscription to one of Xfinity TV’s main packages such as Popular or Ultimate, also includes the NFL Network, NFL RedZone, NBA TV, Military History Channel, CBS Sports, Turner Classic Movies and Big 10 Network.

The Cartoon Network, which is owned by Warner Bros. Discovery, includes such animated shows as Adventure Time, Craig Before the Creek, Total Drama Island, Teen Titans Go, We Baby Bears, and The Wonderful Weird World of Gumball.

The channel’s switch from the Ultimate plan to the add-on More Sports & Entertainment plan is the latest in a series of moves by Comcast to remove certain channels from programming bundles such as Ultimate and Popular to reduce or maintain their monthly cost.

Comcast has also moved several regional sports networks from Popular to Ultimate which has allowed the cable operator to reduce or eliminate the regional sports fee in Popular. The company is trying to attract cost-conscious consumers who have switched to less expensive streaming services over the last several years.
