Comcast on August 12 will move the Cartoon Network from the Ultimate plan to the More Sports & Entertainment plan, the company has announced at its web site.
The switch means that Comcast Xfinity TV subscribers will have to pay an extra $9.95 a month for the More Sports & Entertainment plan to continue watching the Cartoon Network. The add-on plan, which requires you to maintain a subscription to one of Xfinity TV’s main packages such as Popular or Ultimate, also includes the NFL Network, NFL RedZone, NBA TV, Military History Channel, CBS Sports, Turner Classic Movies and Big 10 Network.
The Cartoon Network, which is owned by Warner Bros. Discovery, includes such animated shows as Adventure Time, Craig Before the Creek, Total Drama Island, Teen Titans Go, We Baby Bears, and The Wonderful Weird World of Gumball.
The channel’s switch from the Ultimate plan to the add-on More Sports & Entertainment plan is the latest in a series of moves by Comcast to remove certain channels from programming bundles such as Ultimate and Popular to reduce or maintain their monthly cost. Comcast has also moved several regional sports networks from Popular to Ultimate which has allowed the cable operator to reduce or eliminate the regional sports fee in Popular. The company is trying to attract cost-conscious consumers who have switched to less expensive streaming services over the last several years.
