Cable TV operator Optimum TV today announced a new Internet TV plan that provides more than 80 channels for $30 a month. The package, which is on Optimum Stream devices, is now available in Optimum’s tri-state New York market (New York, New Jersey and Connecticut) and will expand to the company’s offerings in Arkansas, Arizona, Louisiana, North Carolina, and Texas later this year.
Called Entertainment TV, the Net TV plan includes such live channels as A&E, AMC, Comedy
Central, Discovery Channel, Food Network, Game Show Network, Great American Family, Hallmark,
HGTV, Lifetime, Nickelodeon, Paramount Network, TLC and We TV. Optimum TV will provide both the live feed and on demand programming for each channel. You can see the complete channel lineup here.
Optimum says the Entertainment TV offer is for new Optimum residential customers with an eligible Internet plan (higher than 50 Mbps) and you must have an Optimum Stream device (first set-top included at no cost) to access the service.
Why Is Optimum TV Offering a Net TV Package?
The move is the latest by cable and satellite TV operators to target cost-conscious consumers who have switched to cheaper streaming services over the last several years. Optimum can keep the Entertainment TV plan at a lower cost because it does not include the local networks (except for the local News 12 in New York) or sports channels.
“As we continue to expand the availability of Optimum Stream in markets across our footprint, we are
thrilled to introduce Entertainment TV as a new low-cost, high-quality entertainment solution for
customers who are looking for a ‘sit back and relax’ viewing experience,” said Leroy Williams, chief growth and innovation officer at Optimum. “Optimum is focused on providing superior customer
experiences at every touchpoint – backed by a world-class network and product set – and putting our
customers at the center of everything we do. This launch demonstrates our commitment to further
enhancing the Optimum TV offering and bringing customers innovative TV packages that satisfy their
unique viewing habits. We know our customers want choice and flexibility, and Entertainment TV does
exactly that, providing an amazing option for the entertainment content customers want to watch, all at
a competitive price point.”
