Will DIRECTV Subs In Mission Markets Get Fox One For Free?
By Phillip Swann
The TV Answer Man – Follow me on X.
TV Answer Man, I read that with a cable or satellite subscription you will get access to the Fox One App for free. However, I am in a market where DIRECTV is still in dispute with Mission Broadcasting and doesn’t have the local Fox station. Will this affect my access to the Fox One App? – Al, town withheld.
Al, you’re right. Fox plans to offer cable and satellite subscribers free access to its new $19.99 a month Fox One cord-cutter app when it launches on August 21. The app will provide live feeds of all Fox channels as well as on demand programming.
However, there could be a problem for DIRECTV subscribers who have been missing more than two dozen Mission Broadcasting local stations since October 2022 due to a carriage dispute. Fox has often blocked those customers from using its Fox Sports app which provides local and national feeds of Fox sports programming. So the odds are good that it will do as well with the new Fox One app.
We asked DIRECTV this week for a comment and spokesperson reiterated that the decision is up to Fox. And since Fox has blocked Mission subs from using current Fox apps, it doesn’t look good for Fox One, either.
The TV Answer Man will continue to monitor this situation and report back here if anything changes with the Fox One access or the DIRECTV-Mission dispute.
