DIRECTV today added 20 regional sports networks in an add-on plan called MyHome Team for its new $69.99 a month MySports genre programming package.

What RSNs Are Included With DIRECTV’s MySports?
The cost to add a RSN to the DIRECTV MySports plan is $19.99 a month. However, many fans will likely be disappointed to see that their markets are not covered. The list of 20 RSNs include 16 FanDuel Sports channels, Altitude, Chicago Sports Network, the Texas Rangers Sports Network and Marquee Sports Network. Missing from the list are such high-profile RSNs as the Yes Network, Spectrum SportsNet LA, SNY and NESN.

Despite DIRECTV’s claim that MySports will provide fans with all the sports they will need, the plan also does not include CBS, which will broadcast March Madness college basketball games starting next week. MySports does include local network affiliates for NBC, ABC and Fox in select markets.

What Is DIRECTV’s MySports?

MySports, a ‘skinny’ bundle designed to attract cord cutters, offers more than 25 national sports and news channels including ESPN, ESPN+, Fox Sports, TBS, TNT, truTV, MLB Network, NFL Network and NBA TV, among others. There are also approximately 20 free sports channels from DIRECTV’s free service, MyFree DIRECTV. (You do not need a MySports subscription to watch MyFree DIRECTV.)

Does DIRECTV’s MySports Offer More Sports Channels?
In addition to the new MyHome Team add-on plan, MySports subscribers can add the MySports Extra Mini-Pack, which costs $12.99 a month. The MySports Extra plan includes seven sports channels: NFL RedZone, MotorTrend, MAVTV, Pursuit Channel, Sportsman Channel, Outdoor Channel, and Willow TV.

Why Is DIRECTV Offering Genre Plans?
DIRECTV is trying to reinvent the traditional pay TV offering by offering smaller and less expensive plans based on genre. The TV provider last month launched three more genre-based programming packages following the introduction in January of the sports-specific package. There are now plans for news, entertainment, sports and Spanish-language channels with prices starting at $34.99 a month.

The four genre plans are available at DIRECTV Stream, but not DIRECTV’s satellite service.
