Can You Record Games On the ESPN Unlimited App?

TV Answer Man, can you record live sports on the new ESPN app? I want to set it to record Monday Night Football games because I have to work Monday nights. – Todd, Mobile, Alabama.

Todd, the new ESPN Unlimited app, which costs $29.99 a month, includes the live feeds of every ESPN network plus more live sports from ESPN+ such as more than 1,000 out-of-market NHL games, WWE special events and hundreds of college games in all sports categories. There’s also on-demand programming such as documentaries, studio shows and other fare.

That’s a strong lineup, but what the ESPN Unlimited app doesn’t have is a DVR recording feature. You can’t record specific shows or live events. To do that, you will need to subscribe to ESPN on a pay TV service which offers recording, such as DIRECTV, Comcast or YouTube TV, among others.

To watch a show or live event after it’s completed, you have to go to the ESPN’s On Demand section and hope that the network has included it. Unfortunately, not everything is available. For example, I looked this morning for this week’s Monday Night Football broadcast and could only find a highlights package.

There are third-party companies that purport to allow you to record ESPN’s live sports but I have not tested them to ensure they work.

Todd, I hope that answers your question. Happy viewing and stay safe!
