Max this week (November 17-23, 2024) plans to add 11 new TV shows and movies to its streaming lineup. Here are the three most interesting, in my humble opinion:

Dune: Prophecy, Season 1 (HBO/Max Original)
Warner Bros. takes a stab at extending the Dune sci-fi franchise with this prequel set roughly 10,000 years before the original movie’s timeline. Emily Watson and Olivia Williams star as sisters, Valya and Tula, who lead a band of women that will battle evil forces threatening humanity’s very existence. First episode debuts on Max on Sunday, November 17.

Surveilled (HBO Original)
The New Yorker’s Ronan Farrow takes a break from the ‘me too’ beat to investigate the growing use of commercial spyware across the globe. While the technology offers some societal benefits, such as tracking criminals, it’s also being used to hack devices owned by the innocent. The doc chronicles how no one is really safe these days and it’s only going to get worse. Debuts Wednesday, November 20.

The Sex Lives of College Girls, Season 3 (Max Original)
Co-written by The Office’s Mindy Kaling, the Max original series follows four 18-year-old coeds as they navigate academic life while exploring their budding sexualities. In the wrong hands, so to speak, The Sex Lives of College Girls could have been a cheap and exploitative device to woo young viewers. However, in the hands of the witty Kaling, it’s only partially cheap and exploitative. It’s also very funny and occasionally a profound discussion of the difficulties of transitioning from teen to adult. Season three debuts on Thursday, November 21. Seasons one and two now available on Max.
