Amazon, Netflix, Hulu, HBO Max, Disney+ Added 17 New Releases Today: The 5 to Watch
By Phillip Swann
The TV Answer Man – Buy Me a Coffee!
Netflix, Hulu, Amazon, HBO Max, Disney Plus and Paramount Plus today (January 7, 2026) added 17 new TV shows and movies to their streaming lineups. Here are the five to watch, in my humble opinion:
11.22.63
Where to Watch: Netflix
What Kind of Show: Sci-fi Thriller
Who’s In It: James Franco, Chris Cooper
Based on the Stephen King novel, 11.22.63 stars James Franco as a high school teacher who magically is offered an opportunity to go back in time to stop the assassination of President John F. Kennedy. Once there, however, he discovers that history can be a stubborn thing – and he could be trapped in a time warp. The eight-episode series, which first ran on Hulu, is a lesson from the book of the proverbs: Be careful what you wish for. If you’re old enough to remember the halcyon days of the 1960s – and the old Twilight Zone episodes – this one is for you.
Tron: Ares (2025)
What Kind of Movie: Sci-Fi/Action
Where to Watch: Disney Plus
Who’s In It: Jared Leto, Jeff Bridges, Gillian Anderson
Jared Leto stars as Ares, an Artificial Intelligence being who’s called upon to carry out a dangerous mission in the real world. The film, which was released in theaters in October, puts the debate over AI – and its potential uses and abuses – on center stage. The supporting cast includes Jeff Bridges, Gillian Anderson, Evan Peters and Greta Lee. (Display image above of Jared Leto in Tron; Ares.)
Bruce Springsteen: Nebraska Live (2025)
What Kind of Show: Concert
Where to Watch: Hulu
Who’s In It: Bruce Springsteen
If you watched the recent theatrical release, Springsteen: Deliver Me From Nowhere, starring Jeremy Allen White, you’ll love this concert film featuring ‘The Boss’ singing every tune from his 1982 album, Nebraska. (The movie chronicles Springsteen’s struggle to record Nebraska.) The performance was recorded in black and white at the Count Basie Theater in Red Bank, New Jersey.
Made In Korea, episode five
What Kind of Show: Spy Thriller
Where to Watch: Disney Plus/Hulu
Who’s In It: Hyundai Bin, Jung Woo-Sung
The six-episode series stars Hyun Bin as Baek Ki-Tae, a corrupt intelligence officer who exploits his position to amass wealth. Jung Woo-Sung plays a young principled prosecutor who vows to bring Ki-Tae down even if it means risking his life and the lives of his loved ones. The six-episode crime drama is generating major buzz with some critics comparing it to early Scorsese for its fast-paced action and moral dilemmas. (I saw the first episode and was impressed with the acting and action. However, note that the show is dubbed into English from Korean, and, frankly, it’s done somewhat inconsistently. I think you’ll like the show but keep that in mind.)
Beast Games, Season Two
What Kind of Show: Gaming/Reality
Where to Watch: Amazon’s Prime Video
Who’s In It: Mr. Beast
Mr. Beast, the social media titan also known as Jimmy Donaldson, is back on Amazon for another season of death-defying competition for cash prizes. In this installment, 100 ‘smart’ contestants will battle 100 ‘strong’ contestants in various athletic and mental challenges with the winning team scoring $5 million.
