TV Answer Man, I saw your story on free trials for HBO Max but do you know if Netflix has a free trial? – Eileen, Santa Fe, New Mexico.

Eileen, yes, I noted this morning that HBO Max does not offer any free trials, not even at Amazon’s Prime Video which used to offer one for the streamer. But what about Netflix, you ask?

Well, Netflix used to offer seven-day free trials and even occasionally a 30-day free trial. The company said the free tryout helped persuade people to subscribe. But in 2020, the streamer discontinued the practice. If you look at the site now, you will not find a ‘Free Trial’ button.

“Free trials are not available, but you can still sign up and take advantage of all Netflix has to offer,” Netflix stated. “There are no contracts, no cancellation fees, and no commitments. You have the freedom to change your plan or cancel online at any time if you decide Netflix isn’t for you. As a Netflix member, all our plans give you access to our full catalog of TV shows and movies. Choose a plan that works for you and sign up for Netflix!”

Five years later, it’s hard to argue with Netflix’s strategy. The company’s sub numbers continue to rise without free trials and even with subscription increases. The nation’s top streamer has a secret sauce and it’s remains irresistible to today’s viewers.

Eileen, I hope that answers your question. Happy viewing and stay safe!
