Is DIRECTV Raising Prices (Again?)

By Phillip Swann
The TV Answer Man – Buy Me a Coffee!

TV Answer Man, I read that DIRECTV is raising prices again after just raising them late last year. What on earth is the deal? Can you let us know what is happening? Thank you for all your hard work. – Carl, Butte, Montana.

Carl, you’re right. DIRECTV raised prices on several satellite and streaming plans last October, something the TV provider has done at least once a year for at least a decade. So it might surprise, and concern, DIRECTV subscribers that a few publications today posted articles saying the company is already raising prices again.

But allow me to put your mind at ease.

DIRECTV is NOT implementing another across-the-board price hike. The company yesterday notified a small number of satellite customers on legacy plans that their monthly rate will increase around $10 to reflect the company’s overall price increase from last October.

Some long-term satellite customers still subscribe to plans called legacy packages that are no longer available to new subscribers. The legacy customers didn’t get the October price hike but now they will.

So, actually, DIRECTV is now just implementing the October price increase for everyone, not introducing a new increase for everyone.

Carl, I hope that helps. Happy viewing and stay safe!
