DIRECTV’s Secret Price Increase Revealed!
By Phillip Swann
The TV Answer Man – Follow me on X.
TV Answer Man, did you ever learn what DIRECTV’s new prices are? I can’t understand why they just don’t tell people. What’s the big deal, DIRECTV? – Sam, Landover, Maryland.
Sam, I don’t get it, either. But DIRECTV on Friday (September 5) announced at its web site that it will change its prices on October 5, 2025.
However, the TV provider did not reveal the new prices at the site nor would it disclose them to inquiring reporters such as yours truly. DIRECTV would not explain the reason for the secrecy, which is highly unusual. In my 30 years of covering DIRECTV, and this industry, I’ve never seen a TV company do this. DIRECTV did say it would inform individual subscribers of the coming price increases in e-mails.
So thanks to e-mails from DIRECTV subscribers to The TV Answer Man, and social media posts, we have a partial view of what the new prices will be. Note, however, that DIRECTV has not confirmed these price increases; we may not know for sure what they are until October 5 when they go into effect.
Likely DIRECTV Price Increases On October 5, 2025
- The regional sports fee will rise by $2 a month; that could raise it to $18 a month in some markets.
- The Premium package, which includes roughly 200 channels, will increase by $12 a month.
- Peacock will be added to the DIRECTV Movies Extra Pack, raising the price by $5 a month to $9.99 a month. It’s unclear which Peacock plan is being added but it’s likely it’s the new $7.99 Select plan which does not include live sports.
- Peacock’s old $7.99 a month plan which included live sports will rise to $10.99 a month.
- The Select plan, which is a legacy plan that has been replaced for new subscribers by the Entertainment plan, will rise by $4 a month.
- The DIRECTV Ultimate plan will rise by $11 a month.
- The DIRECTV Choice plan, which is the cheapest plan that includes regional sports networks, will rise by $9 a month.
There could be more price increases in the works, but these are the ones we’ve been able to find since Friday.
In the e-mail to subscribers, DIRECTV blamed the price hikes to the ongoing increase in program acquisition costs. The company has raised its prices every year for the last several years.
