Will Hulu Still Make Original Shows When It Becomes Part of Disney Plus?

TV Answer Man, when the Hulu app shuts down, will it stop making new shows and not have other shows and movies like it has now? – Stevie, Bangor, Maine.
Stevie, at some point in 2026, Disney will shutter Hulu as a standalone streaming service. The company plans to add Hulu to its Disney Plus app/service. Disney is doing this to boost interest in the more expensive Disney programming bundles including the one that has Disney and Hulu. (There is also a bundle with Disney, Hulu and ESPN.)
What will the consolidation mean for Hulu’s programming division?
Hulu will continue to produce original programming and license movies and TV shows from other companies. In other words, what you see on Hulu today is what you’ll get when it moves to Disney Plus. (Pictured above: Sydney Chandler in Alien: Earth, executive produced by FX and Hulu.)
If you’re looking for a model, Paramount in 2023 moved Showtime’s programming to the Paramount Plus app, eliminating Showtime as a standalone streaming service. However, Showtime continues to pump out new shows which you can find under the Showtime banner on Paramount Plus.
Likewise, you will still be able to watch Hulu’s programming on Disney Plus by clicking on the Hulu tab/banner on the Disney Plus app.
Stevie, I hope that answers your question. Happy viewing and stay safe!
