HBO Max Subscribers, Get Ready For a Price Hike

TV Answer Man, is it true that HBO Max is raising their prices? I can’t believe that these companies think we will just pay up every time!! We are not made of money, people!! – Shelley, Mobile, Alabama.
Shelley, HBO Max, the streaming service formerly known as Max, and once known as HBO Max before it became Max and then HBO Max again, last raised its prices in June 2024. The monthly ads-free plan increased from $15.99 a month to $16.99 a month. The Ultimate ads-free plan also increased $1 a month from $19.99 a month to $20.99 a month. The ads-included plan stayed the same at $9.99 a month.
However, I’m afraid you will soon pay even more for HBO Max. David Zaslav, the CEO of Warner Bros. Discovery (WBD), which owns HBO, says he thinks the service, and streaming in general, is underpriced.
“The fact that this is quality, and that’s true across our company, motion picture, TV production and streaming quality, we all think that gives us a chance to raise price,” Zaslav told the Goldman Sachs conference this week. “We think we’re way underpriced. We’re going to take our time.”
Zaslav did not say when prices would rise or by how much. But the WBD executive made it crystal clear that the increases are coming – sooner than later.
However, it remains to be seen if HBO Max subscribers will pay up.
Shelley, I hope that answers your question. Happy viewing and stay safe!
