Amazon’s Prime Video next month (September 2025) plans to add 63 new TV shows and movies to its streaming lineup. Here are the three to watch, in my humble opinion:
Black Bag (2025)
Release Date: September 5
Michael Fassbender stars as a British intelligence officer who must investigate the possibility of traitors in the government including his wife, played by Cate Blanchett. Directed by arguably the most underrated director of his time, Steven Soderbergh, Black Bag (Fassbender and Blanchett pictured above) is a taut thriller with characteristic cinematic flourishes from a master auteur; it will keep you guessing until the end. Don’t miss it.
Thursday Night Football
Release Date: September 11, 18 and 25.
Amazon’s exclusive coverage of the NFL’s Thursday night games kicks off on September 11 at 8 p.m. ET with a great matchup when the Washington Commanders visit Lambeau Field to play the Green Bay Packers. Both teams are likely to be playoff contenders thanks to Washington QB Jayden Daniel and Green Bay’s QB Jordan Love who’s coming off thumb surgery. On September 18, Amazon will have another barn burner when Super Bowl contender Buffalo hosts AFC rival Miami. On September 25, TNF will feature the Seattle-Arizona game. Since getting the rights to Thursday Night Football, Amazon has done a terrific job of producing these games with a beautiful 1080p HD HDR picture. If you love football, I urge you to stream in.
The Girlfriend
Release Date: September 10
Robin Wright stars (and directs) this six-episode thriller about a mother whose relationship with her son (Lauren Davidson) goes south when he brings home a new (and mysterious) girlfriend (Olivia Cooke). The awkward situation escalates when Mom starts to notice the girlfriend exhibit some unusual behavior – or at least she thinks she does.
