Max today (March 1, 2025) has added 48 new movies to its streaming lineup. Here are the three best, in my humble opinion:
Goodfellas (1990)
Martin Scorsese’s brilliant 1990 mob drama starring Ray Liotta (RIP), Joe Pesci and Robert DeNiro. Ten years earlier, Scorsese made Raging Bull and it seemed improbable then that he could top such a work of art. But he did. Goodfellas has become one of those movies that you can watch over and over and never be bored.

Carrie (1976)
The 1976 classic horror film stars Sissy Spacek as the high school girl who can move objects (among other things), particularly when taunted and teased by her fellow students. Directed by Brian DePalma, Carrie is a rich and pulpy satire of high school life and the difficulties some have in fitting in. Look for the young John Travolta in an amusing supporting role as one of the evil students who unwisely make Carrie their target.
Ghostbusters (1984)
Hollywood has mined this 1984 classic comedy for numerous sequels, spin-offs and rip-offs over the years but this is far and away the best thanks largely to Bill Murray’s career making role as a wisecracking hunter of ghouls and goblins. Dan Aykroyd and Harold Ramis are good in support but it’s the Bill Murray Show, folks.

Want more options? Men In Black, Stand by Me, and The Perks of Being a Wallflower are all excellent films worth your time.
