Hulu: 3 Movies to Watch This Weekend

Since it’s Easter Weekend, some of you may have an extra day off or two so let’s recommend a few movies to watch on Hulu, one of the nation’s leading streaming services. Here are three recent movie additions to Hulu that I would highly recommend, all films that were released in theaters last year.

Lake George (2024)
Do you like neo noir films? Then Lake George is for you. The 2024 crime drama (with a dash of black comedy) directed by Jeffrey Reiner stars Shea Whigham as Don, a recent parolee who plots to collect a debt from a gangster named Armen (Glenn Fleshler). But Armen turns the tables on Don by requiring he rub out his girlfriend Phyllis (Carrie Coon of The White Lotus, season 3) before he will pay up. The plot thickens when Don decides to double cross Armen with the girlfriend’s help. Lake George is a juicy throwback to the great noir films of the 1940s with a slew of fun performances, particularly from Whigham as the sad sack Don and Coon as the pilfering Phyllis. Stir your favorite martini, don that fedora and settle in for 108 minutes of high-stakes mystery and, surprisingly, some slapstick.

A Complete Unknown (2024)
A Complete Unknown, the 2025 Oscar-nominated biofilm starring Timothee Chalamet as music icon Bob Dylan, was added to Hulu’s lineup last month. The 140-minute movie focuses on Dylan’s early years as a folk musician, transitioning, somewhat controversially, as an electric guitar star. Chalamet, who was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Actor, did his own singing in the film as well as playing the guitar. But it’s his acting that truly shines as he flawlessly channels the enigmatic Dylan, quirks and all. The splendid supporting cast includes Monica Barbaro as Joan Baez, Boyd Holbrook as Johnny Cash, Edward Norton as Pete Seeger, Elle Fanning as Dylan’s girlfriend, and Scott McNairy as Woody Guthrie.

Mikey Madison in Anora,

Anora (2024)
The 2024 comedy/drama, which stars Mikey Madison as a Brooklyn stripper who impulsively marries the son of a Russian oligarch, won the 2025 Academy Award for Best Picture. Madison also took home Best Actress honors and Sean Baker captured the Best Director Oscar. Anora is a sweet and often poignant reflection on the power of love to conquer all despite circumstance or conflict. And Madison is a revelation in the title role and I can hardly wait to see what’s in store for her.
