Reader Question: Will Fox broadcast NASCAR races in 4K?

TV Answer Man, I was disappointed that Fox didn’t have the Daytona 500 in 4K. But is there any more news on NASCAR in 4K? – Mitch, Butte, Montana.

Mitch, I have good news for you. Fox, which did not air this month’s Daytona 500 in 4K, on March 9, 2025 will broadcast the Shriners Children 500 NASCAR race in upscaled 4K. This will be the first NASCAR race available in 4K this year.

The Fox 4K coverage kicks off on March 9 at 3:30 p.m. ET from the Phoenix Raceway in Avondale, Arizona. (FS1 will simulcast the broadcast in high-def for those who do not have 4K capability.)

Will There Be More NASCAR Races In 4K From Fox?
And I have more good news. Fox will air five more NASCAR races in upscaled 4K in March, April and May:

* The Straight Talk Wireless 400 on March 23 at 3 p.m. ET
* Cook Out 400 at Martinsville on March 30 at 3 p.m. ET
* Goodyear 400 at Darlington on April 6 at 3 p.m. ET
* Jack Link’s 500 at Talladega on April 27 at 3 p.m. ET
* Advent Health 500 at Kansas City on May 11 at 3 p.m. ET

FSI will simulcast the races in HD except for the Jack Link’s 500 which will be on a Fox network affiliate.

What Does Upscaled Fox 4K Look Like?

Fox’s 4K live sports broadcasts are upscaled from 1080p HDR (High Dynamic Range). Upscaling is the process when one video format is converted to another. Fox takes the 1080p HDR signal and converts it to a 4K format. Upscaling 4K is not considered as good as native 4K, but the inclusion of HDR can offer heightened colors and vividness. ESPN also upscaled its 4K broadcasts from a 1080p HD signal.

Is It Worth Watching Fox In Upscaled 4K?

Yes. From personal experience, I can assure you the picture is usually better. The high-def image from a Fox affiliate sometimes lacks detail and makes you wonder if it’s actually in high-def. However, the 4K image removes the blurriness and adds a realistic feel to the picture.

How Can You Watch Fox In 4K?

Fox’s 4K games can be seen in the format on the Fox Sports app by logging in with your TV Everywhere user name and password from your pay TV provider. (Note that the Fox Now app is no longer available.)

The pay TV services that normally Fox games in 4K on special 4K channels are DIRECTV, Dish, Sling TV, Comcast, Verizon, Optimum, DIRECTV Stream, YouTube TV, and FuboTV. (In FuboTV markets where the Fox affiliate is provided with your programming package.) Check your on-screen guide for more details.
