Netflix this week (January 19-25, 2025) plans to add eight new TV shows and movies to its streaming lineup. Here are the three most interesting, in my humble opinion:
The Night Agent, season two – Netflix Original
Gabriel Basso (Juror #2) stars as Peter Sutherland, an FBI agent whose quiet nighttime White House post suddenly gets very loud when he learns there’s a traitor at the t0p of government. I won’t spoil season one, but Sutherland’s mission gets even wilder in season two when a dangerous war criminal targets him for disrupting his evil plans. Season two debuts Thursday, January 23. Season one now available.
Saturday Night (2024)
Jason Reitman (Juno, Up In the Air) directs this retelling of the insane backstage hijinks that transpired before and during the first episode of NBC’s Saturday Night Live in 1975. If you’re old enough to remember SNL’s early days, you’ll love this sweet skip down memory lane. The main cast is exceptionally good (and eerily similar to their real-life counterparts) with fun supporting performances from Nicholas Braun as Andy Kaufman, Cooper Hoffman as Dick Ebersol, J.K. Simmons as Milton Berle and Matthew Rhys as debut show host, George Carlin. Debuts Saturday, January 25.
NCIS, Seasons one through five
If you’re one of those people who stream Netflix in the background while doing your household chores, the addition of the first five seasons of NCIS is for you. The CBS drama starring Mark Harmon may be light on realism but it’s addicting TV for the network primetime set. Debuts Thursday, January 23.
