TV Answer Man, I heard something about Peacock raising prices?! Is that true? Is it to get people before the Olympics? — Gennifer, Austin, Texas.

Gennifer, Peacock, which is owned by NBCUniversal. this summer will be the streaming home of the 2024 Paris Olympics. But it’s true that you will have to pay more to watch the games.

For new customers, Peacock on July 18 will raise the price of its ads-included Peacock Premium plan from $5.99 a month to $7.99 a month and the price of its Peacock Plus plan from $11.99 a month to $13.99 a month. Existing customers will see the increase around August 17. The annual price for the Premium plan will rise from $59.99 to $79.99 while the annual Plus plan will increase from $119.99 to $139.99.

This will be Peacock’s second price increase in two years. The streamer last summer raised the price of its Premium and Premium Plus plans by $1 a month and $2 a month respectively. While the Olympics are a likely factor in this price hike, the streaming industry as a whole is seeking to find profits through price increases, program reductions and reduced workforces.

Gennifer, hope that helps. Happy viewing and stay safe!
