TV Answer Man, what is going on with Bally Sports? Will they still show games this year and in future years? Will the games be on Amazon? — Roger, Miami.

Roger, Diamond Sports, the owner of the Bally Sports regional sports networks, this month finally filed a bankruptcy reorganization plan in court. (The company declared bankruptcy a year ago.) In the plan, it says it will sever its ties with Bally following the 2024 MLB season, meaning the Bally name will go away. Amazon, which is investing $115 million in the RSN company, could become the new name for the networks but that has yet to be confirmed. It’s also unclear if and when the regional sports nets will become available on Amazon, which is expected at some point. When that happens, the channels will remain on their current pay TV providers, including cable and satellite.

As for 2024, still using the name Bally Sports, the channels will continue to broadcast the games for MLB, the NBA and NHL. However, after 2024, Diamond Sports’ partnership with MLB will likely end with the baseball league looking to start its own network of regional sports channels. But as of now, it appears that Diamond will stay with the NBA and NHL after this year since the company will still have legal agreements with those leagues.

Roger, hope that helps. Happy viewing and stay safe!
