TV Answer Man, I saw your article on YouTube having a discount on the Sunday Ticket but how about students? Will we get a discount this year? — Richie, Carson City, Nevada.

Richie, YouTube TV and YouTube yesterday began offering new subscribers a $50 discount on the 2024 Sunday Ticket. However, the discount is only available to people who have never subscribed to the Sunday Ticket via either streaming service. So if you cancelled the Sunday Ticket after the 2023 season ended, you are not eligible for the $50 reduction which would bring the Ticket’s price on YouTube TV from $349 to $299 and $449 to $399 on YouTube Primetime Channels. (These are the prices for the base plan which does not include the NFL RedZone channel. The YouTube TV Ticket plan requires a subscription to YouTube TV which starts at $72.99 a month.)

YouTube’s customer service told me yesterday that more discount offers may come later in the year, including some for previous subscribers. However, the discount now is for new subscribers.

But what about students? Last year, eligible college or university students could purchase the package of out-of-market Sunday afternoon games for $109 on YouTube Primetime Channels. If they wanted to include the NFL RedZone channel, the price was only $10 more.

Well, that was last year. YouTube says at its web site that the student plan is $199 this year and $209 for the bundled plan with the NFL RedZone included. That’s still more than 50 percent off the YouTube Primetime Channels regular price but a significant increase over last year.

YouTube says student status verification is required to be eligible for purchase. (Here’s the page where you can verify your college status.) With a student plan, Sunday Ticket access is limited to one device at a time and family sharing is not included. Student plans for the NFL Sunday Ticket can only be purchased on YouTube Primetime Channels, but once purchased you can watch on either YouTube or YouTube TV.

To sign up for a student plan, you can:

1. Go to the NFL channel page and sign in with the Google account you would like to purchase on
2. Select Get NFL Sunday Ticket
3. Below the NFL Sunday Ticket package options, select Eligible students can save with a Student Plan.

Richie, hope that helps. Happy viewing and stay safe!
