Amazon’s Prime Video is raising its ads-free streaming plan from $2.99 a month to $4.99 a month, effective April 10, 2026. The plan allows Prime subscribers to watch movies and TV shows without commercial interruptions.
The cost of an Amazon Prime membership ($14.99 a month) will stay the same.
Amazon said today that the $4.99 a month ads-free plan, which will be called Ultra, will also include 4K programming, up to five concurrent streams (previously three) and up to 100 downloads which enable you to watch show/movies when not online.
The company blamed the price hike on its investment in new features and programming.
“Delivering ad-free streaming with premium features requires significant investment, and this structure aligns with other major streaming services while ensuring customers have the flexibility to choose how they want to watch. Prime members will continue to enjoy the core Prime Video benefit, including HD/HDR and now Dolby Vision, at no additional cost with their Prime membership,” Amazon says in a blog post at its site.
Amazon first required a fee for ads-free Prime viewing in January 2024 and the move prompted significant criticism from users. However, the introduction of ads to Prime Video was another example of the streaming industry striving for new ways to generate revenue due to the high cost of programming. Netflix, Disney Plus and Max have also introduced ads-included plans in the last few years.
