Paramount Plus today (November 1, 2025) has added 136 new shows and movies to its streaming lineup. Here are the 10 to watch, in my humble opinion:
Talladega Nights: The Legend of Ricky Bobby (2006)
Director Adam McKay’s hilarious send-up of the NASCAR circuit starring Will Ferrell as a witless but winning driver. Sacha Baron Cohen is Peter Sellers-like funny as a French driver and rival to Ferrell’s Ricky Bobby and the rest of the supporting cast includes Amy Adams, John C. Reilly and Leslie Bibb. Rev your engines and prepare to laugh.
The Big Short (2015)
The Big Short chronicles how the real estate bubble and Wall Street shenanigans triggered the U.S. financial crisis in 2008. The fantastic ensemble cast includes Christian Bale, Steve Carell, Ryan Gosling, Brad Pitt and Jeremy Strong. Adam McKay directs and was the co-writer. Sharp, insightful and damn funny.
When Harry Met Sally (1989)
Okay, director Rob Reiner may have cribbed a bit from Woody Allen’s Annie Hall, but When Harry Met Sally is still a funny and sweet comedy about the frailties and fickleness of falling in love. Billy Crystal (arguably his best role ever) and Meg Ryan are charming and comedic pitch perfect as the leads and Carrie Fisher and Bruno Kirby are a delight in support.
There Will Be Blood (2007) – (Pictured Above)
Daniel Day-Lewis puts on an actor’s master class as Daniel Plainview, a 19th Century oilman who will stop at nothing to achieve wealth and power. The film, directed with perfection by Paul Thomas Anderson, is a snapshot of our nation as it begins its transition from a frontier land to a highly developed capitalist empire. And what a snapshot it is. PTA’s use of the camera is characteristically magnificent with some of the most beautiful and gripping shots you’ll ever see. Great acting. Great direction. Great movie
Chinatown (1974)
Jack Nicholson stars in this Roman Polanski-directed neo noir classic about a private detective who gets more he can handle when he investigates the transfer of water in 1930s Los Angeles. Nicholson cements his status as one of Hollywood’s greatest as the cool but vulnerable detective J.J. Gittes and the supporting cast is exceptional, particularly Faye Dunaway as a powerful widow with a host of skeletons in the closet. But the real star here is Polanski who was just five years removed from the graphic slaying of his wife, Sharon Tate, by the Manson Family. Scene after scene in Chinatown offer subtle reminders of that grisly event but Polanski bravely taps his personal experience to tell a haunting tale.
Saving Private Ryan (1998)
Directed by Steven Spielberg, Saving Private Ryan stars Tom Hanks as the captain of a World War II unit which must find a single soldier (Matt Damon) while navigating the horrors of war. There’s never been a better film on the sacrifice and unselfishness of America’s military and Hanks is especially good in lead. And the first 15 minutes, which depicts the D-Day invasion, immerses the viewer in battle unlike any scene before or since
The Godfather and The Godfather, Part II (1972 and 1974 respectively)
Arguably the two greatest films ever, not just among those recently added to Paramount+. Director (and co-writer with Mario Puzo) Francis Ford Coppola paints a cinematic masterpiece in each film, chronicling the rise of the Corleone crime family from its early immigrant roots at the turn of the 20th Century to its powerful reign in 1950s and 60s America. The cast is one to die for, pun intended, with Marlon Brando somehow even eclipsing his greatest roles in the 1950s (On the Waterfront, A Streetcar Named Desire) as family head Vito Corleone and a here-to-then unknown named Al Pacino as his son, Michael Corleone, who’s corrupted by family loyalties and power. And there’s the supporting crew. James Caan. Robert Duvall. Diane Keaton. John Cazale. Sterling Hayden. Robert DeNiro (!). My goodness, I can talk about these movies all day long.
Ferris Bueller’s Day Off (1986)
Ferris Bueller’s Day Off has become the American cinema’s best coming-of-age comedy ever thanks to the perfect performance by Matthew Broderick as the wisecracking and charismatic Ferris. The film, which features Ferris playing hooky from school, serves up everything you want from a comedy and more. And let’s not forget the great supporting work from Alan Buck as Ferris’ put-upon pal. Fun film! If you’ve never seen it, please do. And if you have, it’s immensely rewatchable and just as funny the second or 12th time.
Indiana Jones and the Raiders of the Lost Ark (1981)
Indiana Jones and the Raiders of the Lost Ark is a cinematic masterpiece that still holds up nearly 50 years later. Blending action, adventure, and even archaeology, the film is a cinematic simulation of riding a rollercoaster. Directed by Steven Spielberg and starring Harrison Ford as the iconic Indiana Jones, the film takes audiences on a breathtaking journey across the globe in search of the elusive Ark of the Covenant.
