Netflix this week (August 18-24, 2025) plans to add 17 new TV shows and movies to its streaming lineup. Here are the three to watch, in my humble opinion:
America’s Team: The Gambler and His Cowboys
Release Date: Tuesday, August 19
There may not be a more polarizing team in sports than the Dallas Cowboys. And, perhaps without coincidence, there is also a no more polarizing owner than the Boys’ Jerry Jones. Netflix’s sharp-eyed sports doc team chronicles Jones’ reign over America’s Team over the years and the impact the Cowboys have had on the sport and the culture.
The Truth About Jussie Smollett?
Release Date: Friday, August 22
By now, you probably have a firm opinion on the guilt or innocence of the actor Jussie Smollett who swore he was assaulted by two Trump supporters in Chicago when police (and a jury) determined he concocted the story to get attention. But a British documentary crew says you should keep an open mind on the subject and provides new evidence on why. Uphill battle, says me, but you never know.
Titans: The Rise of Wall Street
Release Date: Tuesday, August 19
If you liked Titans: The Rise of Hollywood, the new Netflix doc on movie studio chiefs in the early days of film, now the team takes on the financial giants who built the American Empire in the 20th Century. JP Morgan. Joe Kennedy. John P. Rockefeller. They’re all here.
